Big 12 Week 10 Review

There were only four games in the Big 12 this week, but one of them went a long way in determining a champion.

Texas Tech came home after a tough first loss to Oklahoma, and facing a surging Oklahoma State wasn't going to be an easy task. Oklahoma State came right out and scored early and often, jumping out to a 21-3 lead at the the end of the first quarter. Texas Tech did a great job of not giving up, as they led a big comeback, and were able to cut the deficit to 28-24 at halftime. Oklahoma State again dominated the third, as they outscored the Red Raiders 21-7. This led Oklahoma State to a 52-34 win, the most points Texas Tech has given up all year. Oklahoma State is now in clear contention for the Big 12 title, but Texas Tech's chances took a huge hit, as that is their second conference loss.

Texas continued to look like the team that we have expected all year, winning 35-13 against Kansas. They are now 5-0 in Big 12 play, and are tied with Baylor at the top of the conference. The Longhorns didn't play the best game ever, as most teams are able to beat Kansas by a little more than Texas did, but a win is a win. They still have most of their big challenges left, as they still have yet to face Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and Baylor.

TCU and West Virginia came into their game with equal records, both overall and in conference play, which set up a bug game between the two last week. The two teams lived up to it, with West Virginia coming back from down 17-3, to win 30-27 on overtime. After West Virginia came back and took a 27-17 lead, TCU was able to also comeback and make a field goal at the last second to send it into overtime. West Virginia hit a field goal in overtime to win after TCU missed one on their possession. Neither one will be able to compete for a Big 12 title, but both are close to bowl eligibility, and wins this late in the year are crucial.

Kansas State was able to capture yet another victory, this time 41-7 against Iowa State. Iowa State and Kansas seem to be in a big competition to not be the Big 12's worst team. Kansas State, meanwhile, is in the middle of the Big 12. They are not quite at the level of contender, like the Oklahoma teams, Baylor, and Texas, but they are also not at the bottom like Iowa State, Kansas, and TCU.
